In Spring of 2024, I participated in a dream workshop called Garden Under the Moon.
In this 6-week experience guided by Adam Elmaghraby, a small group of dreamers gathered at the Berkley Herbal Center in Berkley, California, to learn about dreaming traditions - like how dreams are integral to the cultures and everyday lives of Indigenous peoples around the world - and workshop our dreams. In workshopping our dreams, we learned a methodology to share our dreams, ask questions of our dreams, and offer interpretations of our dreams, while respecting the dreamer and the dream. The general intention behind dream work is to tap into our dreams’ wisdom, learn from them, and find guidance along our respective and collective paths. By the end of the six weeks, each of us had developed a foundation upon which we could build a lifelong practice of dream work.
For two decades I hadn’t dreamed (or recalled my dreams) due to heavy cannabis consumption. As soon as I stopped using cannabis, I began dreaming vividly and consistently - and remembering them! Thanks to skills and knowledge gleaned from Garden Under the Moon, dreams have become a source of insight, understanding, and direction for me.
If you’re curious about dream work and want to learn more, I recommend the book (which was recommended by Adam), Where People Fly and Water Runs Uphill: Using Dreams to Tap the Wisdom of the Unconscious by Jeremy Taylor.
